Re: looking around for an other mud
you might want to try legendmud as it keeps adding new stuff all the time though the community is small. The community is very friendly but you have to generally figure out the quests by yourself. It is against game policy for players to give you game secrets but they will steer you in the right direction.
Also, not sure how much it qualfies as fantasy. The worlds range from the realistic to the fantastic and are all based on real world mythology or actual historical periods. They range in time from a few thousand BCE to the 1940s or early 1950s as far as I can tell.
Currently, I'm in 1849 San Francisco. Other areas include Camelot, the Aztec empire complete with their gods, Mt. Olympus, Prohibition Pittsburg, Medieval Germany, Feudal Japan, and many more.
The game is similar in some ways to 4dimensions except there is no future times, and although the quests are often mentally challenging, they aren't super wacky or strange that you can't figure out many on your own.
but there is stuff like mining, tailoring, scribing, and all sorts of stuff.
If you are really interested in a more fantastic set of adventures, start in ancient times. If you like playing magic-types, keep your spirit or mind high and pick a staring city that sounds like it would be magical such as the Arabian nights area.
however, your starting location and skills determine some of the abilities you get. For example if you start in the Arabian Nights, magic might come easy to you, but flying airplanes will not.
You are stuck in your own time period at the start of the game, but there are quests that will let you travel elsewhere in time. There is also a remort system where you can come back with new staring stats and in a new starting town. Although you will lose most of your skills, those you got from special events and quests pass on to your new character so you can gradually make a super-character, with no remort limit.
