Re: No Harry Potter MUDs

Oh I don't know, some works adapt better than others.

If for example you actually have! a story about a huge world with monster fights, well there's no need to alter too much. Indeed, while I couldn't get into the game, I got the idea discworld mud worked precisely for this reason. Same with some of the starwars games, since Starwars already has plenty of planets and missions and options for the sort of things people usually do in muds, crafting, fighting, flying vehicles etc.

In changing medium with anything, especially adding interaction where there wasn't before, there is always going to be some degree of bending the world a bit, it's just a matter of how much bending can happen before things break, and how much the creators compromise with the source material.

For example, in Hogwarts live, when your character died, you go to the legend of the green dragon grave yard, but instead of encoutering remius the overlord of death, you run into bellatrix lestrange, who is judging the dead.

this just seems bonkers to me!

If on the other hand, you'd gone to a spectral version of platform nine and three quarters and found the ghost of dumbledor who told you to go back because your characters' work was not done, that would've been far more potter nostalgia, and far more appropriate to the world.
