Re: accessible download manager

@simba

A file host often provides both a free and paid version, and the free version generally doesn't allow direct download of the file  without opening the website in the browser.

The browser then sets a cookie for the session, and the server renders the file to the user after a timeout as an inducement to upgrade.
The direct download link to the file is not static but dynamically generated in the browser, so in theory you should be able to copy it into another program.

Unfortunately the provider often detects which user agent initiates the download, and if it does not match the cookie set by the browser, downloading can't proceed.

Software like IDM spoofs the cookie and user agent and can therefore download the file, which may be more stable than downloading directly from within the browser.

However, functionality  such as resuming the download relies on server side permissions, and most hosts don't allow nonpaying use rs to resume downloads.

I don't think you can avoid the ads by using a download manager unless you pay.

As a free user, you most likely won't get resume functionality by using IDM to download from a file host.

Also most file hosts require entering a captcha before downloading, and no download manager by itself will solve that problem.

But if you pay, there are a lot of good download managers.

IDM is great, but does not work well with all browsers and file hosts.

JDownloader is also great, but is Java based and only works with some tweaking and Accessbridge enabled.

However, I have good experience with JDownloader + Firefox + the Flashgot extension when downloading from free hosts like Zippyshare.

Another alternative is subscribing to a multihoster service such a Multidown, Zevera, Premiumize, Simply-debrid, or Alldebrid.

There are a lot of these services, some good, some bad and some outright fraudulent but you should f irst consider if your favorite file host is supported and if it's overall screen reader accessible.

Subscribing to a multihoster solves two problems -- you don't need to fill out captchas before downloading, and you can resume downloads.
