Re: Paladin of the Sky, new full length audio game RPG

I think I owned him with Cecil this time. You've got to kill him fast, for sure. If you miss more than two or three scrolls you're probably screwed.

Heh heh. I never did finish my last attempt, so I started over last night. I've just finished Tower of Fear. All my characters are around L48, except Lucy who is L51. I killed all the ghosts, and I'm making an effort to practice the other scrolls I didn't bother with before. Of the ones I've seen so far, the only one I think is truly obnoxious is Lucy's at level 50...it starts with something like nine seconds of wait time. Honestly, that sort of thing is wasted; unless you're in a rounds-are-of-the-essence scenario before you learn Energy Vortex (and you aren't), it's actually more worth your while, time-wise if nothing else, to use the far easier Black Hole twice. You can probably fire off two of them, easilyy before you cast one level 50 scroll successfully. It just doesn' t work. Same with Kelly's Embodiment of Righteousness, but to a lesser degree. If I recall correctly, Cecil's got one that's similar, but again, you can either wait till your next spell, ignore it entirely by using dice or just use two of a weaker spell unless you can't take the damage. And this is what I meant when I said arbitrary design. In any case, I've just vowed not to use that scroll, that's all, and unless it does something I don't know about, I strongly suspect others are going to do likewise.
When a developer of a MUD or something makes an area that's too hard/too out of the way/gives too little for its challenge, players get wise and ignore it, and the area is made essentially useless. The same will happen with some of these scrolls, I guarantee you.

On a happier note, while fighting ghosts I noticed something interesting. Gabriel seems to get 3x the amount of coins other characters get. He sucks, his stats are bad, but he rakes in the dough.

One other thing, and pardon me for another grumble, but here's a really, really silly question. If players can access the same bag for healing potions, can switch in and out on the fly so long as they aren't in battle and can actively decide who pockets coins even when it's the active party member who picks them up, why in heaven's name can't they trade coins between one another? This makes no sense at all, unless there's some bit of unspoken canon where coins, once obtained, somehow imprint on the bearer. I just assumed they were regular coins, and as such, should be transferrable without charge. This smacks of another mechanic that was ill-conceived; charge the player coins for something that, by all rights, they should be able to do without batting an eye. The way I see it, there are two solutions. You could just let characters transfer coins from the x menu (where you can swap members and hear scrolls and whatnot), or yo u could make -all items nontransferrable and charge a nominal fee. That, or add some sort of dialogue into the very beginning of the game explaining that coins somehow imprint on whoever picks them up and thus can't be transferred from person to person. I would say, though, that this latter option is slipshod at best; there are coins lying all over the ship and in various dungeons, so who do they belong to?

Okay, rant over, I promise.
