recently discovered another RPG that is quite playable, the tytle is shining blade.
this one is a strategy RPG, with a battle system similar to games like sakura wars or valkyria chronicles. basically, it's a turn-based tactical RPG but you move your character in realtime. after you move a character, you press X to select an action, then if you are in range of a target, you'll hear a sound indicating that you are in a target's range and you can either press X multiple times or you can press triangle then X to initiate the action, such as attacking an enemy with weapons or magic, healing allies, using defensive barriers ETC.
if 1 or more party member is in a target's range, you'll hear some kind of a charging sound and you have to quickly press one of the 4 arrow keys then press X. if you do it successfully, you'll do a link attack with another character that are in range.
there are also some town exploration part in the game, but you basically only visit 1 town in each chapter and all the points of interest that you can interact are basically in the same location so you can memorize each of them.
in certain situations, you have to make a choice. when it's your time to choose something in a dialog, you'll hear a countdown timer, then you have to press up or down to select which dialog that you want to choose and press X to confirm. if you choose the right dialog option, your relationship level will go up.
this game is only released in japan, so for those who want to enjoy the story even more you can try to play it with retroarch's AI service to translate the story text from japanese to english. most of the scenes are fully voiced, but some are not. and strangely, since this is a japanese exclusive game, usually the circle button is used to confirm and the X button to cancel. however in this game, it uses a western style layout, which means X to confirm or in gameplay is your primary action button, and circle to cancel.
