@Death dragon, spirits are very easy to deal with, go to the town and find the drunken Scotsman, if you bring him the tarton kilt you got in that first dungeon, he'll teach you the whisky guzzle special attack, which will remove any and all spirits you find after combat, you can thus give the holy water to the holy plummer in the holy bathroom, and he'll use it to refill the holy water tank and turn on the holy tap, this will give you access to the holy plughole of holiness which will let you go down into the holy drain and obtain the holy plunger, the most powerful holy weapon in the hole holy game.
some people recommend using holy water on the holy watering can, which you can give to the holy gardener, who will then send you on a quest to retrieve the holy spade from the holy toolshed, so that you can open up the entrance to the holy whole earlier than usual, but I don't recommend this myself because then you'll have to fight your way through the holy holly before getting the holy hedge clippers, which is almost whoelly suicidal, and even if you get through that, you'll end up in the holy hole battling the holy moly, which is really pointless, since it doesn't give you any greater rewards than the fight with the holy guacamole later on.
