I've said it once if I've said it ten times.
Follow walls.
You categorically will not get lost if you always follow walls and remember which way you're going (clockwise or counterclockwise).
For instance, if you're going along the south edge of a little hallway, from west to east, and you get to a ninety-degree corner, you go north. Then you keep going, and let's say a few steps above you is a little hallway that leads east. You go east.
This is going to sound weird, but imagine that you've got a room with a lot of little alcoves in it. Now imagine that someone has told you that you have to get around the room by side-stepping, and you have to explore every alcove. If you sidestep to the right, with your back pressed against the wall, and suddenly there's no wall there, you step backward, with a wall pressing on your left shoulder. If there's an opening on your left before your back touches the wall, then you'd sides
tep left, so now there's a wall against your chest.
When I say "ofollow walls" I mean it very very literally.
