I think I now realize what this is, so below I'm going to put a spoiler for those who still haven't quite figured out and who want to come up with their own theories.

Thanks to Ghorthalon I've just made something click into place, read on and the explanation should be clear.
If someone says the words "the game", the idea would be that you might not necessarily be thinking about this particular mindgame. So, if you were whitness to a conversation about a game, say, for example, someone says "so ya know papa sangre ii? I beat level 2 of the game yesterday", well the idea would be that most would, hopefully, think about just that conversation and answer. However, if your thoughts suddenly go to this mindgame and losses, then you lose.
It's about subconciousness, and the reason everyone plays is because they do think about games, and so
metimes the word the game, but you might not be aware until you admit that you hve lost. That's where things get confusing. This thing is not meant to be taken seriously as such, it's a sort of meme. It is an interesting one as it plays with mind perception and things, so you might have to be a little careful.
