@Kile my point was not about price, I'm aware Amazon are ridiculous in their fees, just about knowing what people will pay for. If I can pay three pounds for a full length novel or two pounds for six pages? which am I going to buy?
As I said, I know it's a prequel to a series, but in that case, why not use it to generate buz?
I also wouldn't say the time skip is vague, just that one second your introducing us to a character, the next "weeks later" before we've really found out anything about her at all.
I think if I was personally starting a story that way, I'd probably start weeks later with the action and do the arrival as a flashback or a rememberance of the main character in a general setup.
Btw, one great resource I found on writing, was This post from the blog over at fantasybookreview.co.uk (the site which i write book rev iews for). The book discusses reviewing of ameter fiction which was considered for professional publishing, and what worked and what did not, and are actually suggestions I'm baring in mind in my own writing.
Btw do you have a site address for Droople? I can probably find some hosting space and it might well be what I need in terms of a blog.
