There isn't really something else except for traditional programming languages. BGT isn't a bad tool, but I don't think Mac quite had the traction that it does now when BGT's development started.
BGT is windows only, so mac users either have to set up a windows partition for gaming or run windows in a virtual machine (which is a kin to playing a game on a bad emulator).
Personally I'm working on writing myself a framework in C++ to build my game on top of. That's taking the long way home so to speak, but I don't want to be captive to BGT at this point especially since it's development has pretty much concluded.
What were you having problems with in terms of latency in Paladin?
