Re: New Infinite Apocalpytic Procedural Ascii Game "The Wastes"
Hi Huw and welcome back, great answers, I'll also stick up some more news and see about a db page when the no ascii version is live and of course give any feedback.
Captchas can be the bane of existance with a screen reader. The reddit one had no audio alternative, and while some audio alternatives are soluable, some are not, mostly I think because whoever creates these distorts the numbers to the point they theoretically are bot free without checking them. There was a point that Google's defaults were unusable and commically it was impossible to complain because their complaints form had a captcha, though they have improved slightly sinse then, hence why they're often referd to as captures .
As for access I'll let you know.
The three areas that I've noticed thus far are ascii art, miner sound shenanigans as I mentioned, and the iss
ue that gene mentioned in the main menu.
This is because the letters are spaced apart with a screen reader the options read one letter at a time instead of words, ie n, e, w, g, a, m, e.
Obviously, when the game is started someone will still see the default main menus with that spacing however it's easy enough to say hit 4 and enter.
This only occurs in the main menu, not anywhere in the game itself, sinse I assume spacing in the game is different.
I'm really looking forward to the updates, what you mention of the towns etc sounds awesome! As you might gather, the number of accessible rpgs is rather limited, hence why a game like this is so welcome.
