Audiogame Archive, a probably old idea
Hi,
Sorry if this idea has been around the bush many times before. You know how there's been an Interactive Fiction archive for many years? I think there should be an audiogame archive. I've just seen way too many games, concept demos, prototypes, etc. be seemingly lost to time because nobody seems to have them any more, sometimes including the original developers. What it seems to me like we need to do is gather up all the audiogames, source code, documents, etc. we can find and put it all in a central location accessible to all. I know there are a few attempts at this currently or in recent history, but in my opinion, they all have one problem or another. For example, Dropbox links could disappear if the maintainer loses interest, kills their Dropbox account, needs more disk space, or if Dropbox itself ever goes away or changes in some fundamental way. BT Sync gets around some of those concerns, but isn't as accessible to novice computer users. Imho there sh ould be a team of moderators whose job it is to approve uploads and enforce the rules E.G. no cracks, no serial numbers/keys, no keygens, etc.
Unfortunately I don't have the disk space to support such a project or I'd volunteer to host it. But really, something permanent like this should have a main site and one or more mirrors so the failure of one system doesn't destroy the whole thing.
What does anyone think?
