Re: Two XB1 accessibility features unveiled
DO we actually know what Sony TTS on PlayStation 4 will include and is capable of?
It reads the screen as it is, and will be expanded to a much wider aspect of the game console I am sure. To me, that's a screen reader, as it reads as you navigate and also tells you about the different button functions. Given that firmware update 2.50 is more than likely only the beginning stages, is there anything to suggest that developers will not be able to take advantage of it in the future just because it is called Text to Speech?
This seems like an assumption that has been repeated over and over again, but looking around, I'm not actually seeing any facts that back up this assumption that it isn't a screen reader despite the name. So far, people have hesitated to call it a screen reader simply because Sony calls it text to speech, but no one actually knows how the component works. Does anyone know how it interprets the information sent to standard output? Does anyo ne know whether this information is determined by an underlying component, or is this information being sent directly to the speech synthesizer?
It would be entirely different if it just sent the information to the synthesizer from the application as opposed to attempting to identify information displayed on the screen through standard output.
Just food for thought. So far, it has been assumed that developers will have an easier time of it with Narrator on xBox, but can anyone say for certain if developers can do something similar with PS4? The thread seems to suggest otherwise based on early impressions and a stepping stone for Sony, as opposed to future progress with the next update.
