:-) It's definitely not oriented towards the audiophile market. Should improve a bit when I get an HDTV and switch to a progressive player, probably a Denon, although since that's a while away I might look at HD-DVD or Blu-Ray by then. But based on the results from the SB2 and SB3, it won't be my audio playback device anyway. > > A better question might be 'Does a CDPro2 using I2S connector direct to > TDA1543 sound better than a squeezebox with digital out mods connected > to the same TDA1543 via $2,000 coax (if playing an unscratched cd and > everything were powered by a car battery)?' Heh - yes, differences there would be harder to figure out. I'll forgo that experiment for now if you don't mind. ;-) Thanks for all the responses, and thanks vdorta for the link. A very good explanation of jitter, concise, fairly easy to understand yet technical enough. Since the file is being transferred in computer file format to the SB2, I believe the computer or the transmission method will not add or remove errors. That is, after the file has been made and assuming no SB buffer underruns. Therefore SB playback is even better than the author stated, provided the SB components are of sufficient quality, and they are. jaybeee, I have tried the analog outputs with vastly different results - suffice it to say I prefer digital, but in this situation the same DAC is used - the one in the receiver. It's just that there are two digital sources, my DVD player and the SB. -- Mark Lanctot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19240 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
