Welcome! Now...onto business. Everyone (EVERYONE!) is going to tell you
that FLAC is the only solution. I now rip FLAC and mp3 (using LAME) at
the same time. It's really impossible for me to hear any difference on
my system (YMMV, as they say). If you are interested in my mp3 settings
(I use RazorLame):

"-b 160 -m s -h -V 0 -B 320"

This creates files that are about 5x compressed, but they are very high
quality. O.k., that's my advice...now bring on the FLACkers!

p.s. forgot to mention, I use EAC for ripping and making FLAC files
(and pretty much everyone else here will tell you the same).
