I use a pair of Grado SR80s when I travel. I started with a similarly priced pair from Seinheiser and didn't care for them at all, but I have not made a direct comparison of the higher priced units.
The Grado can be a bit uncomfortable for long listening sessions, but I haven't had any problem with the newer/softer earpads that they switched to some time ago...
