Well... when I first saw the title of this post, I had kind of a sinking feeling, hoping the Slimdevices folk hadn't gotten themselves into a morass of NAS hardware/firmware development which would suck precious resources away from their core product line. Then I just began to hope that they'd OEM'd most of the NAS device from someone good -- it'd be ideal if they'd been clever enough to choose the company which seemed like the best fit to me, in technology and apparent corporate attitude, Infrant. Then I followed the link and breathed a sigh of relief. It's just a bundling of the current best-in-breed-at-the-price-point devices. They've chosen wisely, and they're not building their own NAS from scratch. Why Infrant? Why is there in fact already an Infrant ReadyNAS NV in my equipment room? Optimal (for me) value for the money. The device performs better, has a better rep for solidity then those crappy plug-a-couple-of-USB-disks-into-a-router looking devices, but it costs far far less than the "real" industrial-strength $tens-of-thousands devices.
