A typical preamp isn't controlled by a web page, that's why!

As Patrick says though it does nothing to prevent a well-designed
preamp sticking full level or greater into your power amp, if the
source level is sufficient and the overload margins are well designed.
It relies on the user to mute things to prevent this, which is not
dissimilar to relying on a user not clicking the wrong place in a web
page ;)
