The theory and math behind this upgrade is quite straight forward. If you run two dac's in parallel their audio signals are correlated, while their noise (and too a lesser extent, distortion) will be un-correlated. As a result the audio signal will double, because the two dacs are adding in phase, but the noise won't, because there's no relationship between the two noise signals.
As a result, in a perfect world, you gain about 3db in signal to noise ratio. Will you hear this improvement? That depends on what is setting the noise floor in your system, and how much of that 3db improvement you actually get.... As for going beyond two dac's, the math holds true, but keep in mind it's not a linear relationship: 2 dac's = 3db, 4 dac's = 6db, 8 dac's = 9db, 16 dac's = 12db etc it can get expensive! -- DCtoDaylight ------------------------------------------------------------------------ DCtoDaylight's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7284 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27910 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
