again, thanks for all the suggestions, which seem to make a lot of sense. I do have some bose headphones so the suggestion of trying these to get over the problem that I don't have a CD player is great. Will aslo try some FLAC files and see if that makes a difference. Coincidentally I ordered the Tacima CS929 a few days ago. I will try out the 'no cost' ideas and report back.....
