spooley - You have not said if you have a SB or not, if you do, hook it up to that bad boy and feed it some lossless files. My experience with the DTR 8.2 was it sounded terrific, especially with music, my move to Parasound was really about movies. I think if you feed it some quality files either digitally or analog it is going to sound very good. Forget about what is happening inside the unit and just listen. If your not happy you can always upgrade your equipment.
