They may believe that an optimal wireless network with better signal
strength etc, places less demands on the PSU within the Transporter and
therefore may have an influence on sound. The fact that it's most likely
a seperate PSU defeats that argument, but it is certainly the case that
network amplifiers do consume more power in poor signal strength
conditions. By the same token, I'm sure they would argue that the fact
that the network side is idle during the SPDIF test had a similar
effect.

Is there a way to absolutely guarantee no level adjustment of the data
within SlimServer, i.e no volume control, gain correction etc.? I know
you can set the volume to 100% for digital output, but I quite often
get clipping through my SB3 into an extrenal DAC, which I never get
with the original CD into the saem DAC from a CD transport, which
suggests there is a gain adjustment going on somewhere. If you could do
that, then you would be more sure that you are comparing like for like
input from Transporter and SPDIF into the DAC.
