I have one of these http://www.tascam.com/Products/hdp2.html and LOVE IT. It is PRO quality (better than audiophile, IMHO) as it will record up to 192kHz/24-bit on CompactFlash. Built-in phantom power for condenser mics, mic soft-limiting, external wordclock and video sync capabilities as well as timecode chase.
I'm sure it's overkill for most users on this forum, but I bought it for those features...
