Ben,

Nice test, and nice write up.

Regarding your explanation of how the Lavry sounds better than the stock
SB3, it's hard to put into words, isn't it?

Before I got my Transporter, I used a SB1, then SB2, then SB3 into a
modified Art DI/O ADAC. The DI/O sounded quite a bit better than the SB1
analogue outs, but the difference was more subtle with the SB2 & SB3,
and also difficult to describe! The best way I can summarise it is that
the DI/O sounds more musical, more relaxed, smoother, a more open sound.

On a couple of occassions, after switching between SB and DI/O, I didn't
bother checking how I'd left it setup. On both occasions, after about
half an hour of listening, I felt that something wasn't quite right and
found I'd was listening to the SDB analogue outs rather than the DI/O.
On switching back, I couldn't here much (any?) difference immediately,
but the long-term listening experience was much more enjoyable.

Now, tell me how one would identify that sort of difference in an ABX
test? Answer: you probably couldn't. But it's definitely there - the
DI/O is better than the stock SB, but not in an immediately obvious way.

Make of this what you will!

R.
