That wasn't intended as a careful test, but in essence it was an AB/X
or AB/XY test. In other words, we listened to known sources first (A
and B) and then attempted to determine whether X (an unknown source)
was A or B. There was no attempt to determine which sounded better.
This is one of the standard methodologies in audio testing, and it
doesn't introduce any extraneous questions or mental tasks, so I'm not
sure what you're objecting to.

I can dig up some references if you really want.

As you keep emphasizing, this discussion isn't (yet) about enjoyment,
it's about whether there's any difference at all. If there's no
difference, you can spend your money on aspects that actually matter,
hence increasing your enjoyment :-).

As for length of test, you've again completely ignored my point, which
is that short tests are demonstrably more sensitive than long ones.

No one I know conducts blind tests in any other way than AB/X or
AB/XY; in other words, asks only whether there is a difference. I
have seen a few tests on the internet that did something else, and I
agree it's not optimal (although it really shouldn't matter unless the
differences are so small as to be just barely perceptible).
