Linux has got a LOT better in just the last few years - I agree totally. I use Debian 4.0 and it is much easier to install and use than ever. If the main aim is ease of use, then I see a lot of Mac users jumping out of their seats. They would argue theirs is a better alternative than Windows (and I would tend to agree with them). What I like about vi is that it works over a text terminal session, so with just a telnet or ssh session you have a functional editor. No GUI required.
