Why would it consume more power? On average I am sure both decoding FLAC and WAV use the same spectrum of instructions and at the same clock speed. There is no other component (like a co-processor for example) that is used more when decoding FLAC than WAV and the end data set is identical. What could the difference be? Power consumption in processors is generally related to basic design and clock speed, not which instructions they carry out.
