It's kind of unfair to compare the SB3 against a $5k CD player. Your best bet is to use the SB3 in a secondary room and upgrade your main system to a Transporter. That would at least match, and likely exceed, the sound quality of your Sony. Also the Transporter is capable of supporting up to 24/96 files, whereas the SB3 only supports 24/48.
