I use my Denon's 3808 internal dac. It's pretty decent (it has the same quality as most sub-1000$ dacs) and it simplifies my installation. If one day I feel the need of upgrading, I'll need to get a 2-3000$ dac.
It's pretty difficult to advice you on a dac without knowing the rest of your installation... anyway, some descent dacs (better than the SB's internal one, of course) are : --- Beresford TC-7510 MK6/3 G-B) : 250$ --- Moodlab's «The Dice» de Moodlab (Hong Kong) : 400$ --- Russ Andrews DAC-1 USB (G-B): about 900$ --- PS Audio Digital Link III (USA) : 1000$ And, of course, the Apogee dac. ;) BTW, I don't think that such a thing as "a good partner" exists between a drive (your SB3) and a dac. A "good partner" should rather be used to identify an homogeneous dac-amplifier-speakers' combination. :) -- Themis SB3 - Denon 3808 - Sonus Faber Grand Piano Domus ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Themis's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14700 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=49316
