The Audioengine 2 appears to have its own analogue preamp. If you can't bypass it use it (!) and set the SB3 volume to 100%. If you can bypass it try using the SB3 digital volume control. This kind of thing probably won't make a big audible difference but you did ask for 'more' on an audiophile forum!
