For myself I'm running my SB3 through a Micromega DAC 1. Sound was decent with that Micromega signature sweetness. To make it better I then replaced the opamps with the Burson opamps which made a significant improvement. I then got a proper S/PDIF cable and the sound improved once again. So, another recommendation is to get a used DAC and install the Burson opamps.
