Experiment witht he positioning of the speakers,
some speakers i had has been sensitive to the angle  toward your
listening positioning, experiment with different "toe in".
Dont beam the treble axis directly toward your listening positioning,
some modern speakers tends to peak i little directly on axis, goal seem
to be more uniform of axis response ?

How is your acoustics ? try the things in another room ?
Modern design seem to have a very "wide" polar response, eg they spread
even the higher frequencies  very well of axis this reflects on all hard
surfaces near the speaker.

If you listen to the speakers in known "good" room are they sibilant
then ?
Now days acoustic treatment can be shockingly  well designed and
aesthetically pleasing with high waf, no more egg crates glued to
ceiling ;-)
