There is no argument as to whether different dacs sound different so as I said , if the TP's dac is not to your tsste - try another. Or are you saying that all dacs sound the same? I use an extremely revealing system , the Sehheisser HD 800's are regarded as the best headphones in the world ...I also use various headphone amps from valves to top of the range solid states. The one constant in my system is the TP. No matter what amps , headphones , cables etc I use , the fact is that the TP's dac is somewhat lifeless in terms of spaciousness and somewhat bass shy - changing my dac cured that. The whole "using spdif/aes-ebu will massively degrade the system" is rubbish..there are 1000's of different systems that do things this way and that sound wonderful.
