In my opinion the Transporter does a fantastic job as a stand alone DAC. I connected it to the digital outputs of my Cambridge Audio 840 CD player, which had received rave reviews in an audio publication. Music played through the Transporter had more transparency and presence than it did through the 840's internal DAC.
