Erik, It will certainly have a similar impact - any gain reduction in the digital domain can only be achieved by reducing the bitstream sample value and so the bitstream is no longer a "bit perfect" rendition of the original material.
This will reduce the Signal/noise ratio slightly. All digital EQ/DRC needs to buy itself some headroom to allow for boosting of frequencies that are at/near max level.
