My absolute favorite bookshelf speaker is the Thiel SCS4. That may be too large for you as I am unsure of those requirements. At one time they did have an active version but I have never heard them. ATC is probably the nest sounding active speaker I have experience with. The Thiel is up there with one of the best values in audio in my opinion...
