When SBS 'pads' to 24 bit depth, the eight LSB bits are all '0', these get ignored by my 20-bit HDCD DAC, when an HDCD encoded stream comes in, the HDCD indicator turns on. This wouldn't happen if the signal wasn't bit-perfect. Of course, this is at 100% volume.
