Being a long time member of the this forum I am fairly certain that taken as a group the members of this forum are very knowledgeable about digital audio. And they are also fans and users of the various Squeezebox devices as way to listen to digital audio. With that in mind I would like to try and get a consensus the following issues:
1) Exactly what does "bit perfect" mean 2) What are the different ways to obtain a "bit perfect" digital stream to a DAC 3) Is one "bit perfect" method better than the any other "bit perfect" method 4) Is a "bit perfect" method which alters the data stream still "bit perfect" I am beginning to get a bit confused (pun intended) regarding all the information and misinformation being tossed about in the audio press and online with respect to getting a "bit perfect" data stream form one's computer to an external DAC. Specifically I don't understand how once a "bit perfect" data stream is obtained any piece of software can make this "bit perfect" data stream sound better without actually changing the data stream and therefore making the once "bit perfect" data stream no longer "bit perfect". Please feel free to correct anything that I may not be understanding correctly and to clarify or expound upon anything which I have made unclear or over simplified.
