yupp - but everytime there is a background behind that makes (in some cases) sense. Since u USB Stick is in the USB Specs - a USB Stick will run fine. Since a Harddisk is more complex it has two Magnetical Engines and not all of them are in the USB given specs. So they need an extra power supply (supported) or an USB Y Cable that had two source connectors - one if only for the power the other is for USB Data also. If the power supply is badly make - it may can be that you hear a strange noise. But if so its all about the quality of the powersupply.
