You have noticed a known psychoacoustic phenomen . Indeed playing the same thing again can sometimes sound different ,some one else did the reasearch too , but rigth :) it's a whole field of science . Another sanity check is the player a software on the same box or a real squeezebox over the network ? If it's a real squeezebox the server can only influence the sound with for example buffer underruns i.e. Stuttering due the communication problems ( not a subtle effect ) the same file send by different server is the same to the player as long as the buffer is reasonably filled .
