The aufs-source packages in Debian and Ubuntu are fully patched for NFS Kernels, and AppArmor. (and the kernel includes all patches, too) [0] You can even use aufs to boot the standard Ubuntu Live CDs. [1] Why not use the package? That's what I created them for.
