@mfo: the use of \^ in the regex makes no sense in Augeas. Augeas doesn't
apply regexes line per line, but on the whole file as a whole, hence the
use of eol (or nl in your case, although it would be a good idea to use
the same standard as all other lenses as a side note).
Using \^ in a regex is useless (and in that case, erratic).
