I've just discovered I did this earlier in the year, but guess I forgot to
submit it!
The need for an fd makes it a bit of a pain to use from Ruby, because as
far as I know, there's no interface to memstreams. There's StringIO which
looks like an IO object, but it's a pure Ruby construct and doesn't seem
to have a corresponding fileno.
My test uses a temp file, which I guess is the only option. Any other
ideas would be welcomed.
