For those in the Sydney Channel 9 broadcast zone, keep an eye out over the
next coming weeks.

The team from "Postcards" (5:30pm Saturdays on 9 in Sydney) came to Camden
Airport on Friday 10th May to film a segment on gliding with Southern Cross
Gliding Club. Postcards is a Sydney-centric version of "Getaway" - most
segments focus on things to do that are an easy day trip from Sydney. See
http://ninemsn.com.au/postcards/ for more details.

Reporter Francene Scali took 3 flights in an IS-28 with AEI Don
Palmer. All up, the TV crew probably took over 4 hours of footage from 6
different angles (lipstick camera on the front dashboard, lipstick camera
on the wingtip, handycam held by the reporter in the front seat, air-to-air
from a Maule "chase plane" (BIG THANKS to Curtis Aviation at Camden !),
ground shots from a chase car for the takeoff, and static ground camera for
the take-off and landings.

Francene certainly had a ball, and I think the rest of the crew were kind
of jealous to be stuck on the ground watching her have fun, especially when
Don did a loop on the 3rd flight !

It'll all be whittled down to probably 5 minutes for the actual segment,
but it will all be worth it if we attract just a few people to the sport.

More positive publicity for the sport ! And all it took was a few minutes
to fill in the story suggestion form on the Channel 9 web site. Maybe this
is one avenue that other clubs can pursue with their local city / regional
broadcasters

Cheers
