I have to agree with Harry here and say that it is almost pointless arguing over the statistics and trying to make them look better. Anyone can manipulate figures to suit their argument . We are preaching to the converted here on the chat.
Take the message to your field this weekend. Discuss it while doing the morning set up... while waiting on the grid .... after flying... anytime... but do it at the field where everyone from novice to experienced pilots gets to listen, learn and contribute. The point is that ACCIDENTS ARE HAPPENING. 1 accident is always too many. We should be making safety and lookout our number 1 priority as part of training right from day 1...... and not let up on hounding the idea.... we all need a refresh on ideas now and then. I have just started flying again (after sitting at the start gate for too many years). And I have been glad to see that "look out" and awareness are a big priority in the training. PS.... did you join gliding for the pure enjoyment of flying. ??? for everyone's sake... be safe .....and we will all enjoy our passion.
