The thinking in this discussion has been revolving around gliders of
similar performance, ie plastic kites of the modern era.
Then there is me in my piece of 70 year-old technology who joins a
thermal with plastic birds in it. At 30 kts and a circling radius most
of you wouldn't believe, I can go up through the middle of the lot of
you, sponging off your fancy varios as you attempt to maintain best
climb while I just gawk around watching that you are adjusting your
Saturnian orbits to maintain separation from my Mercurial one.
