This is just a 5 year reminder that the original
regulator (by Ducatti usually) used in both 2 stroke and 4 stroke Rotax are
all but USELESS - I could only recommend Claus Gimm "Powermate" regulators - I
first fitted one to a 501 rotax prob 15 years ago and all of a sudden
batteries last 5 years and more instead of 18months. Also usually zero
radio noise if everything else is done right.
Rotax and Jabiru engines (unlike Limbach and car
engines) have power generated by revolving permanent magnets and so
they generate all the time and thus energy must be got rid of via large
fins when battery is full. I like to mount Powermate in a well vented area
out of engine compartment.
For what it is worth notice Ducatti Bikes do not
use Ducatti Electrics - think that tells a story.
I first learnt about Powermate when I noticed about
a dozen Ultralights/tricks I looked at in a row all had Yellow Powermate
regulators and those guys are not renowed for waisting money.
I have no deal with Claus but can not beleive
how people keep using those useless Rotax regulators (the one used
on 501 rotax to me looked like an off the shelf bridge
rectifer) and just keep buying a new
battery every few years
