My favourites included, when I crewed for Bob Mc Cullough, Libelle H301, Comp No. 2. "Base 2 to 2" Cubleys "Big Red" Giles "King George" and Yellow Bird (dads Boomerang) was "Beatle Base" The worst. When the powers that be decided that base stations couldn't have names and we must use the call signs, (Narromine 1975) one long winded person used to say, "Oscarrr Hotel to Oscarrr Hotel Base, Do you read me Oscarrr Hotel Base. Over" Not once but many times. Oscar Hotel Base didn't have a chance of answering. Funny that these days, with so many pilots not having crews , have base names have become irrelalvent? Cheers Patch

Justine will answer to Penguin Base: when J was into scuba diving, she would get all geared up and then waddle around the boat on her short legs and weighed down by her tank almost exactly like a penguin. Just wondering what your base station is called, and or, what's the best one you've heard of? My favourite so far is Manders, 'Room Service'; and The Woolley's base station is 'Johnny Walker'. The reasoning, Grandad's first glider ended in the rego Whiskey - it was his favourite drink at the time!
