Hi folks
I'm involved in the effort to establish an Australian wide RASP
(Regional Area Soaring Prediction) system. One of the many things we are
doing at the moment is trying to establish the areas in which gliding
occurs - and the specific areas for wave flying). We have things well
underway, but we don't have any input from Alice Springs and don't know
how big (or small) to make the RASP area for those pilots.
Is there anyone here who flies at the Alice - or who can put me in touch
with an Alice Springs based pilot?
For those of you who are interested, please find the Google Earth RASP
areas file at
http://www.hart.wattle.id.au/alice/gliding/index.html
Simply open this in Google Earth and you will see the various proposed
RASP areas (and the specific wave areas, except for the WA Bluff Knoll
area).
Please be aware that there are a number of constraints on areas that are
imposed by the computer model. Whilst we certainly want to produce the
best system, there could well be things we cannot do because the model
simply won't allow us to do so.
If you don't know about RASP, there's heaps of info on the net. There
are current RASP implementations for S Qld, NSW, Vic, SA and WA and the
people behind these are directly involved in the Australia wide system.
It is our hope to have the Australia wide system up and running for the
summer season.
If you have any comments on this, please get back to me - particularly
if you feel the areas we are proposing need tweaking.
