Go fly it. A lot. With some ballast, with full ballast, with no ballast, on your own, with others...
The best training for flying is... Flying. The other advantage is that it's more fun than calculators and spreadsheets. All gliders are different, even the ones with nominally the same brand and model names. And pilots are the most variable of all. The wing loading that works for you, isn't necessarily the wing loading that works for someone else or for some other glider. Make your glider the best it can be. Of course. But still the best pilot will win, because a better pilot in a worse glider will on average beat a worse pilot in a better glider. To quote G Dale: "Gliding is a game of skill and chance". To quote Lee Trevino (champion golfer of the 1960's and 70's): "The more I practice, the luckier I get". Put the two together. And enjoy UKM. :) Cheers Tim Tra dire e fare cè mezzo il mare -----Original Message----- From: aus-soaring-boun...@lists.internode.on.net [mailto:aus-soaring-boun...@lists.internode.on.net] On Behalf Of Adam Woolley Sent: Saturday, 13 July 2013 09:28 To: Discussion of issues relating to Soaring in Australia. Subject: [Aus-soaring] Optimum wing loadings for climb rates? G'day All, Just wondering whether anyone know's how to calculate the optimum wing loading for an average climb rate? I've just bought a Ventus 1a (UKM) and need to figure out how to fly optimally with water again!
